About This Standard

ISO 14065 specifies requirements for bodies undertaking validation or verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) assertions and claims. It operates alongside ISO/IEC 17029 (which provides the generic V&V body requirements) and ISO 14064-3 (which specifies the GHG verification process), forming a comprehensive framework for credible GHG assurance.

GHG validation and verification bodies are accredited to operate in carbon markets, emissions trading schemes, voluntary GHG reporting programmes (including CDP and GHG Protocol), and regulatory reporting contexts. The standard ensures these bodies operate with appropriate competence, impartiality, and methodological rigour.

ACI-certified auditors develop competency in evaluating GHG validation and verification body operations, assessing sector-specific competence requirements and the technical rigour of carbon accounting verification methodologies.
